Dallas HSAA vs. Baton Rouge Patriots:
The 1st Annual Cowboy-Cajun Shootout
Blue Angels Defense To Be Challenged by High-Ranked Junior Quarterback
This Saturday, the nation's homeschool football community should take notice of a game between two experienced football programs attempting to make a name for themselves on a national scale.
The Dallas HSAA Blue Angels is coming off a very successful 6-3 record from the 2008 season, as well as a strong showing in its opening game victory against Fort Worth Temple Christian, 57-12. Each year, Dallas HSAA asserts itself as a stronger program than the year before, and this year should not be any different, despite the fact that it lost several key seniors from last year's squad.
Last year's Dallas team challenged the "self-proclaimed national homeschool champions"—Tulsa Jaguars—to the wire in a hotly contested gridiron showdown. At this point, there are no predictions from the HSAA side, but this year's Dallas-Tulsa re-match should be another barn-burner. Everyone agrees that this year's Dallas HSAA squad should be stronger than last year's. Enough about that.
The Baton Rouge Patriots are coming off an 0-9 season from last year, but that is deceptive. Prior to that, the Patriots won their independent league in Louisiana for 2 straight years. This year's squad is returning 8 starters and features several newcomers. The most notable returnee is the coach's son, 6-foot-4, 190-pound quarterback Stevie Douglas, who is considered one of the state's top junior prospects. The younger Douglas passed for more than 600 yards a year ago as a sophomore. As an interesting side note, Stevie Douglas and his family will be featured on the MTV TrueLife—"I'm Homeschooled" episode. Some of the MTV taping will take place at the game on Saturday.
Dallas HSAA football commissioner, Jim Kinville, is encouraged about the positive attention that homeschool athletics has been receiving from the media lately, and stated, "We are excited to travel to Baton Rouge to kick off the 1st Annual Cowboy-Cajun Shootout. We are looking forward to the start of a long competitive history between our organizations and look forward to hosting them in Dallas next year."
All Dallas HSAA fans are asked to wear RED at the game, so "we can have a sea of red to support our team," as well as purchase a Spirit Stick to make lots of noise.
After future games with Gateway Charter (Sept 18) and Rockwall Christian (Sept 25), the Dallas HSAA Blue Angels meet the Tulsa Jaguars in Dallas on October 2.
Dallas HSAA is a homeschool sports organization that serves the Dallas / North Texas areas.
