Cougars hang tough with Air
Force
February 4- The first two games in the
history of CCU Baseball took place this
afternoon at the baseball stadium located on the
campus of the Air Force Academy in Colorado
Springs, CO. The young Cougar squad gave an
inspiring performance and gave notice of their
arrival into the highly competitive world of
college baseball. In Game One of the
doubleheader, against the Div. I Falcons, two
costly errors and some spotty hitting
overshadowed a gutsy pitching performance by
freshman Bud Wilborn (Albuquerque, NM), as CCU
dropped the game, 0-5.
In the second game, the Cougars were led by the superb pitching of freshman David Hendricks (Dallas, TX), who threw a 2-hitter as the Cougars outhit the Falcons 8-2. However, CCU suffered from some untimely hitting and from a controversial call at the plate that helped to seal their fate in a heartbreaking 1-2 loss. The afternoon was quite a showing for a team loaded with freshmen, beginning the progam's first season, against a veteran Div. I program. It portends of better things to come for CCU Baseball. Note: David Hendricks played his high school ball for the Dallas HSAA Angels, a homeschool team that competes in the Homeschool World Series Association. During Hendricks' senior season, the Dallas Angels placed 1st at the HWSA Championships in Atlanta, Georgia.
