Academics
Each member team and/or program shall have
standards in place to make sure that all participating
players maintain at least a 2.0 GPA (on a 4-point scale)
during the active season. Where the active season is defined
as October through March of the following year. For example,
the 2009-2010 active season begins in October 2009 and ends
March 2010.
Age Restrictions
Boys and Girls 12 and under, 14 and under,
16 and under, and 18 and under are the eight different age
groups offered. A player’s age group is determined by their
age on September 1st, 2009. For example, a player who is 16
on September 1st, 2009, but turns 17 on October 5th is
considered eligible to play in 16 and under age group at the
2010 State Championships. Players may play in a higher age
group, if desired.
To play 18U, player must be born after September 1, 1990
To play 16U, player must be born after September 1, 1992
To play 14U, player must be born after September 1, 1994
To play 12U, player must be born after September 1, 1996
Transfer Students
Any student who transfers from a public
school, Christian/Private School, or another homeschool team
because of disciplinary reasons must wait 1 year before
he/she is eligible to participate in any THSSBC activity.
All other players are eligible instantaneously. However,
player must play on the team he/she plays on at State for
the second semester. Players wishing to play on a team that
they do not participate on during the year may request a
hardship exemption.
Homeschool Requirements
For a player to be considered homeschooled,
51% of his/her education must arrive from at least one of
the following sources:

Taught at home by the player’s parents,
grandparents, and/or legal guardian, or taught at
home by an older sibling of at least 18 years of age

Taught at home, or someone else’s home, by another
homeschool parent tutor, provided that it is done
under the player’s parent’s supervision

Taught at a central location (for example, a
homeschool co-op class) by a homeschool parent or
tutor
A player is not homeschooled if 50% or more of his/her
education arrives from:

College or vocational/technical classes taken at a
non-homeschool institution
-
Classes from a Christian, Private, or Public school
A player that has participated in a graduation ceremony is
not eligible to participate at State. We do
acknowledge that there could be some extenuating
circumstances, and we might consider a hardship exemption in
certain situations.
To be eligible for participation in the
Texas Home School State Basketball Championships, players
must be homeschooled continuously from January 1st to the
beginning of this year’s tournament.
Players must live at home with his/her legal
guardian to be considered homeschooled. |
