About HSAA Football
Who We Are:
Thank you for your interest in HSAA Football! First, and foremost, the Dallas HSAA Angels football team exists to provide homeschooled athletes with the benefits of participating in competitive football in a Christian atmosphere.
The organization desires to provide the athletes with instruction in the skills required for playing football and is committed to modeling and teaching Christian character traits, including self-discipline, self-respect, respect for authority, and good sportsmanship.
We have developed a great atmosphere for our players and their families. We truly think of the team as a family! We strive to incorporate activities to foster this family environment.
We had a tremendous season last year! The Varsity team won the State Tournament and the Middle School team went undefeated! We hope to build on those accomplishments this upcoming season!
General Information:
Our football program is for homeschoolers. Please read the eligibility requirements here. We currently have two teams; one for middle school and one for high school (varsity). Below are the age requirements for both levels:
Middle School is for 6th - 8th graders. Athletes must be at least 12 years old by September 1st.
High School is for 9th - 12th graders. Athletes must be at least 15 years old by September 1st AND they cannot turn 19 before September 1st.
We hope that as our numbers grow, we will be able to expand the high school program and have a junior varsity (JV) team as well.
Practice:
Last season for training camp, we practiced 4 days a week (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri) during the month of August from 6:30-8:30 pm, until our first game.
Once games began our regular season practice schedule was 3 days a week (Mon, Tue, Thu) from 6:30-9:00 pm with games on Fridays.
We intentionally do not practice on Wednesday because we like to allow time for the athletes to attend church and/or youth group.
Practices were at Prestonwood Christian Academy, Carpenter Park, and Hoblitzelle Park - all in Plano.
We expect the practice schedule/locations for the upcoming season to be similar to last season. Any changes will be noted here on the website.
Games:
Last season we played our games on Friday nights at Emmerson High School in McKinney. Middle School games started at 5:30pm and Varsity games started at 7/7:30 pm.
Any changes made to the game schedule/location will be noted here on the website.
State Tournament:
At the conclusion of the regular season, the Varsity team participates in the Homeschool State Tournament. It is usually spread over two weekends with games played on Saturdays. This year we are excited to host the State Tournament. Time and location TBD.
National Tournament:
The Varsity team also participates in the Homeschool National Football Tournament in Panama City Beach, FL. The dates for the 2023 tournament are November 15 - 19. As the date approaches, we will provide information about lodging and transportation.
In the past, parents have been responsible for transporting their athlete to/from Florida. Although families may make their own accommodations, we normally reserve a block of rooms at our own resort and encourage families to stay at the resort with us.
Florida truly is a memorable time that we look forward to each year!
Coaches & Staff:
Reggie Davis is our head football coach. His four sons play on the Varsity team. Coach Davis played in the NFL and has been coaching for over 20 years with experience at all levels, from elementary flag teams to professional football teams.
Coach Davis and his coaching staff believe football is an incredible tool to teach the life lessons that are critical to developing these boys into young men that will be the leaders of tomorrow. Read more about our coaches here.
Expectations:
We do have high expectations for both the athletes and their parents. Please read the HSAA Expectations form found here. We also require our players and parents to participate in both volunteering and fundraising.
Off-Season Training:
Our off-season strength & conditioning program is designed to help our athletes get faster and stronger. Off-season training usually begins in January and continues through May.
Spring Ball:
Spring Ball consists of 15 practices (some padded) for both middle school & high school. Spring Ball is when the coaches will evaluate the players and begin forming depth charts for the regular season. Everyone who wants to play needs to make every effort to attend Spring Ball.
Spring Ball will begin on May 15th. Practices will be Mon, Tues, Thu, Fri, and Sat. Most of the practices will be in the evening at Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano.
There is no additional cost for Spring Ball. However, athletes must be registered for the upcoming fall football season in order to participate in Spring Ball; as we will be issuing equipment at this time.
Tryouts / Player Evaluations:
We do not hold tryouts for the middle school team. If you register for middle school, you have a spot on the team - as long as we have enough equipment.
Player evaluations for high school will be held during Spring Ball to help determine skill level and placement on either JV or Varsity (assuming we have enough equipment and enough players to field both a JV and Varsity team).
7 on 7:
Last year the Varsity team participated in 7 on 7 games on Tuesday nights in Dallas during the month of June. We practiced on Monday and Thursday nights in McKinney from 6:30-8:00 pm.
We plan to continue with 7 on 7 for the Varsity team again this year. Game and practice times TBD. Information will be posted here on the website.
What's the Cost?
The cost for Middle School is $750 and the cost for High School is $950.
This includes a spirit pack for the athlete, as well as the use of a helmet, pads, practice jersey & pants, and a game jersey & pants. Parents must purchase a mouthpiece and cleats for their athlete.
